Well, ladies and gentlemen, not to anyone's surprise, but Auston Matthews has officially made Maple Leafs history, snapping a 40-year-old record set by Rick Vaive, who scored 54 goals in a single season back in 1981-82.
Matthews tied Vaive's record back on Monday night in Tampa on the heels of a 4-point performance, including a hat trick on Andrei Vasilevskiy. On Thursday in Dallas, Matthews scored his 55th on the season, and is now the single season goal scoring leader in the Leafs' 105-year history. Here's the goal.
