It's been a rough season for Leafs goaltender Jack Campbell, who has had one of the worst stretches in the league since December when it comes to subpar play and injury issues. After playing backup to to rookie Erik Kallgren over he past two games, Soupy got the nod against the Washington Capitals on Thursday, but unfortunately for the 30-year-old, he got clipped HARD by Tom Wilson in the late stages of the first period.
Wilson was coming in hard in pursuit of the puck, while being shadowed by Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin. Campbell, while fully inside his crease, attempted to make a play on the puck and Wilson just ran straight through him, knocking his helmet off in the process.
Obviously, the Leafs were not happy with the play, but the officials did issue a 2-minute penalty for goaltender interference to Wilson, who was unhappy with the call as he felt like he was guided in by Muzzin.
Coming out of the box, Wilson turned down a fight with Leafs' fourth liner Kyle Clifford, and neither Kyle Dubas up in the booth nor Sheldon Keefe on the bench were very happy that Wilson wasn't issued a major penalty or ejected.
