On June 28, 1994 the Leafs shocked the hockey world when they traded the beloved Wendel Clark to the Quebec Nordiques. In addition to Clark, the Leafs sent Sylvain Lefebvre, Landon Wilson, and the 22nd overall pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft to the Nordiques for Mats Sundin, Garth Butcher, Todd Wariner, and the 10th overall pick in the draft.
A few months later, on August 18, 1994, the Leafs then introduced their next captain. That next captain was none other than the man now known as "Killer", Doug Gilmour. Gilmour was named the 15th captain in franchise history following the Leafs' second straight trip to the Conference Finals. Gilmour had produced 28 points for the Leafs during that playoff run and had 111 points in that regular season.
Gilmour remained captain of the Leafs until 1997 before he went to New Jersey, paving the way for Mats Sundin. Gilmour would return to the Leafs at the trade deadline of the 2002-2003 season and played in 1 game, or rather a part of 1 game, before being injured and not returning for the rest of the season.
