Wayne Simmonds was an absolute wrecking ball for the Leafs in their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, but while he was physically engaged and constantly exchanging niceties with several Bolts, it didn't help the Leafs much on the scoresheet, as they were toppled 8-1 in Tampa.

Simmonds racked up 15 minutes worth of penalties in Tampa, 5 for fighting Pat Maroon and a 10-minute misconduct for trying to fight Maroon a second time near the end of the contest. He also laid a monster hit on Bolts defender Mikhail Sergachev in the third period. That play, per Player Safety, warranted supplemental discipline.
Simmonds was fined $2,250 by the Department of Player Safety for charging Sergachev, even though the play did not result in a penalty in game. It's likely that Simmonds would have been able to escape a fine had he just not left his feet.
