Pair of injured Leafs return to the ice

Veteran blueliner Jake Muzzin and the newly signed Pierre Engvall missed both pre-season games against Ottawa on Saturday and the opening few days of camp last week as they were dealing with injuries.

After a week away the rink, Muzzin returned this morning separate from the rest of the training camp group as he and Pierre Engvall skated together on a different rink at the Leafs practice facility. Engvall has been dealing with a foot and ankle issue since before camp and is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Monday. Muzzin had been away due to some back discomfort.

Hopefully Muzzin will be able to join the main group at some point this week and find his way into a game or two. If not, he could risk falling a step behind once the season starts and that wouldn't be ideal for him or the Leafs defensively.

The Buds have a bit more flexibility if Engvall misses extended time due to the incredible forward depth that the Leafs have at camp. Still less than ideal for the player, as Engvall would also be a step behind the rest of the roster when he returns.
