Following new information that was revealed regarding Mike Babcock's "photo gate", the NHLPA sent a team to Columbus to investigate. Marty Walsh, Ron Hainsey and Don Zavelo did a deeper dive into the allegations of Babcock's conduct and then met with the NHL. The new information on this includes younger players speaking up, saying they were uncomfortable with Babcock's request to view photos on their phones, which was reported yesterday morning.
The meeting with the NHL was scheduled prior to any of the allegations being known, but it quickly became the main topic of discussion. Following their meeting with the league, the NHLPA released a very blunt and short statement.
The short and blunt statement does not sound like good news for Babcock, especially with the investigation still ongoing. If the investigation was a brief one, we'd have likely known Babcock's fate already. However, since the PA is taking more time on this, it lends to the idea that they have discovered something that requires a deeper dive.
Per an update on Friday, the Players Association is believed to be reaching out to some of Babcock's previous players, presumably in an attempt to discover whether or not there's a pattern here.
