Kyle Dubas said last Monday that he would either be the Leafs' GM or taking a step back this upcoming season at his end of season press conference. However, he appears to be going back on his word, something he did not do during his time as GM of the Leafs. Maybe the way Brendan Shanahan handled things on Friday gave Dubas a chip on his shoulder or lit a fire under him to find work for this season.

Whatever pushed Dubas to find new work for the upcoming season has certainly put him in the driver seat in Pittsburgh. According to Pens reporter Taylor Haase, Dubas met with a number of executives in Pittsburgh Tuesday night. In addition to that, Dubas also met with future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby.

Crosby has a lot of say within the Pens organization because of who he is and rumour has it that he is a big reason why head coach Mike Sullivan is still around. The meeting between Dubas and Crosby was likely about Dubas' vision for the franchise and how to remain competitive in Crosby's final years while also preparing for life after him, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.

One thing is for certain; some in Leafs Nation are not happy to hear that Dubas may not be taking a year off after all, despite indicating that he would during last Monday's presser.
