Insider reports that the Leafs are preparing to announce their new GM

After just a week and a half of interviews, the Leafs are expected to make an announcement regarding their new GM shortly. It is been reported from the start that former Flames GM Brad Treliving was the front-runner for the gig, but many believed that the longer the process went, the less likely he was going to get the job.

That, however, is not the case, according to TSN's Darren Dreger, who has reported this evening that the Leafs are expected to name Treliving as the club's new General Manager.

With one question answered, there are still plenty more to be figured out. What happens with Sheldon Keefe and Brandon Pridham? How much selling does Treliving have to do to get Auston Matthews to commit long-term to the Leafs? Will he trade Mitch Marner or William Nylander?

Treliving is coming fresh off of a pair of undesirable situations involving star players, what with Johnny Gaudreau's decision to test free agency last summer and Matthew Tkachuk's infamous trade request shortly thereafter. Perhaps the lessons he learned during these unenviable situations will aid him in dealing with the number of challenging situations facing the Leafs this summer.
