Game 6 between the Leafs/Bolts falls on an important anniversary for Toronto; are the Leafs destined to advance?
Leafs fans around the world will be wearing lucky jerseys, sitting in "their spot" on the couch, drinking "their drink" and, I'm sure in some cases, praying before their home made Wendel Clark shrines. Us? Superstitious? Maybe a little. Nothing is a coincidence, everything is a sign from above, good or bad.
If you believe in these things, it may interest you to know that Game 6 falls on a very important anniversary. 3 years ago, the Toronto Raptors went on a magical run, underdogs in 3 of their 4 series. The Raps pulled off the impossible, taking home the Larry O'Brien Trophy as NBA Champions.
The odd part about that magical post season was that the defining moment didn't happen in the finals, or even the conference finals. No, the defining moment was game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. May 12th, 2019, with the Raptors trailing by two in the dying seconds, an inbound pass found Kawhi Leonard, who just barely got a shot off before the buzzer. The ball bounced once, twice, three times, four times before dropping through the net. The roar of the fans could have drowned out a heavy metal concert. As the Raptors and their fans collectively celebrated, there was a feeling of destiny in the air. Sure enough, the Raptors rode that victory past the Bucks, past the Golden State Warriors all the way to the first championship in franchise history.
3 years later to the day, the Leafs have the chance to pull off a playoff upset of their own. A 3-2 series lead against the two time defending Stanley Cup Champions, in a game that, while it isn't Game 7, certainly feels like a Game 7.
Who will the Leafs' Kawhi Leonard? I have a sneaking feeling it will be
John Tavares who lands the final blow to slay the dragon. The captain will come through in the end. Leafs in six, believe it.
