On Friday, we saw the Buffalo Sabres make things official with 2021 first overall pick Owen Power, as the Mississauga native inked his 3-year entry-level deal, which is huge news for a Sabres team that is finally beginning to show signs of life.
On Saturday morning, the Sabres made the announcement via their official Twitter account that Power would be joining the team on the road, as Buffalo is in Tampa Bay to take on the defending Stanley Cup champs. The 19-year-old defenseman will not play in Tampa, however.
How does this tie in to the Leafs? Well, the Sabres are in Toronto to take on the Buds on Tuesday, and the Sabres have announced that Power is expected to make his NHL debut against his hometown team.
The 6-foot-6, 213-pound defenseman is certainly more than appropriately sized for the NHL and should have no problem handling himself at the highest level. An elite playmaking defenseman, Power will look to usher in a new era in Buffalo, but he'll have a pretty tall task during his first NHL game, attempting to defend against the likes of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, William Nylander and Morgan Rielly.
