The Boston Bruins are on the ropes, down 3-2 in their series against the Carolina Hurricanes, so you knew coming into this one that there would be fireworks.

During the first period, Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy absolutely obliterated Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho with a MONSTROUS open-ice hit, sending the young Fin crashing to the ice not even knowing what hit him.

This is a tough one for me.. on one hand, I don't think McAvoy was counting on Aho curling back. On the other, McAvoy left his skates to make the hit. It's going to be interesting to see what Player Safety's interpretation of the hit is. There was no penalty issued on the play.

Thankfully, Aho was okay and would remain in the game.
