Breaking: Pierre McGuire fired by the Ottawa Senators
The revolving door of personnel in Ottawa's front office continues as Pierre McGuire was fired by the club today. The move is a bit surprising but given he was hired to be more of the media presence and was not seen in the media, it makes sense. He currently has 2 years left on his deal so he won't be in any rush to return to work.
He was the voice between the benches for decades and has been known for his rather interesting facts about where a player's parents went to school or what they had for dinner. Along with his enthusiastic colour commentary and coined phrases such as "double Dion" and "pucks in deep" he was, to many annoying, but also entertaining.
It has been refreshing to have Ray Ferraro and others take his place between the benches and they have done a fantastic job. Unfortunately, ESPN may be inclined to bring McGuire back in some capacity for his "insight" and argumentative takes and it would not be surprising given the news he's no longer working for the Sens that he makes an appearance at some point during the playoffs.
