Auston Matthews breaks yet another franchise record

Auston Matthews has, once again, proven that he's good at hockey. I know.. shocker, right? Last night, as the Leafs played the Panthers in Florida, Matthews notched the first goal of the game and his 40th for the season, breaking yet another franchise record that hasn't been challenged in years.

At just 25 years old, Matthews has FIVE 40+ goal seasons. That's right - five 40+ goal seasons in the 7 years he's played in the NHL. It's wild to think that the other two seasons, he was also within striking distance of 40 goals, but missed 20 games and 14 games in those seasons, respectively. To put it in perspective, with the unreal season Connor McDavid is having with the Oilers, the greatest player in the world has just four 40+ goal seasons under his belt with one additional season played.

What makes this milestone for Matthews even more impressive is that this has been considered a down season for him. He's fought through injuries, missed multiple games this season and just hasn't seemed 100%, yet he still hit the 40-goal mark. Leaf fans are constantly reminded that we're currently watching one of the greatest Leafs players of all time.
