Wednesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs narrowly escaped Anaheim with a victory, being the Ducks 2-1 in overtime thanks to Auston Matthews' 30th goal of the season. The Leafs absolutely dominated the game from start to finish, firing 57 shots on net. Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal stopped 55 of them, setting a Ducks franchise record in the process.
The following day a Toronto news outlet, the Toronto Sun, discussed the Leafs win, but used the headline "Auston Matthews saves day in OT after no-name goalie vexes Maple Leafs". The headline caused the Anaheim Ducks social media team to respond via their Twitter/X account.
Being called out by the Ducks led to the Toronto Sun doubling down on their headline by posting a second article on Friday that read "Anaheim Ducks noisily quack about 'no-name goalie' jab in Toronto Sun headline". In that article, the writer, whose name was not published, took a final parting shot at the Ducks.
As of now, the Ducks have not responded to the Toronto Sun's recent article and it is unlikely they will. This would not be the first time in recent years where the Toronto Sun has come under fire for their headlines or stories and I'm sure it won't be the last.
