Edmonton Oilers Captain Connor McDavid was on the wrong end of a highlight reel Wednesday night, being robbed by a beer league goalie during a game in his hometown.
On Wednesday evening, Connor McDavid and his Oilers teammate
Leon Draisaitl surprised everyone in attendance at the Magna Center in McDavid's hometown of Newmarket, Ontario when they stepped onto the ice to take part in a beer league game.
McDavid and Draisaitl obviously kept things tame in terms of their efforts, but those in attendance did see flashes of their NHL skillsets. Neither of them were able to find the back of the net in their team's 6-2 loss, but McDavid did find himself on the wrong end of a highlight reel save from the opposing team's goaltender.
At one point during the game, McDavid did what McDavid does, splitting three defenders with his unique combination of speed and stickhandling before firing a quick shot on goal trying to catch the goalie moving the opposite way.
Unfortunately for McDavid, it seemed the goalie did his homework before the game as he whipped out his glove while going into the splits to rob the superstar.
Amid all of the speculation about McDavid's future in Edmonton, Oilers fans are likely enjoying the fact that Draisaitl accompanied the NHL's best player to his hometown. All of the speculation about their future together doesn't seem to be bothering them as they both look like they are in mid-season form with training camp still two months away.
