Sens D-man knocked out cold, stretchered off after hitting his head on the ice

A scary scene in Long Island tonight after Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom took a big hit from New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck in the second period, which unfortunately led to the blueliner being stretched off after an awkward fall.

Picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone with speed, Brannstrom dumped the puck into the offensive zone just as he was traversing the blue-line. Clutterbuck finished him off along the boards with a hard hit but the defenseman landed on his head and remained motionless for quite some time.

The former first round pick recorded a career-high 18 points in 74 games last season with the Senators. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brannstrom. Fingers crossed that he'll be alright. That landing was tough to watch.
