Craig Berube's latest comments spark speculation about William Nylander's status as the Leafs prepare for Tuesday's showdown with the Calgary Flames.

William Nylander was injured in Friday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres and, unfortunately, missed Saturday's rematch in Toronto.

William Nylander Loses Ironman Streak

In missing Saturday's game, Nylander's streak of 267 consecutive regular season games came to an end. It's still far away from the current record set by former Leafs forward Phil Kessel, but still very impressive.

Craig Berube Provides an Update on Nylander's Availability for Tuesday

The Leafs held a very optional skate Tuesday morning ahead of their early-evening game against the Calgary Flames. Following the lightly attended game-day skate, the Leafs' bench boss provided an update on Nylander's availability.
"He needs to feel right. It's hard to him to know until game time, until warmup."
Much like Saturday when he participated in the pre-game skate before he decided he was unable to play, it will come down to the last minute before we will know if the former first-round pick will be able to play.

Waiver Claim to Step In If Nylander Can't Go

If Nylander is unable to go, waiver claim Sammy Blais appears set to draw into the lineup and make his Leafs debut. The physical forward, who won a Stanley Cup with Berube in St. Louis, did not stay out late and do extra work with the scratches. That would also mean that Nick Robertson is likely to get a second consecutive game on the top line with Auston Matthews.
Calle Jarnkrok took part in the optional morning skate, but was ruled out by Berube as he continues to deal with a lower-body injury that he likely suffered on Saturday in the Leafs' thrilling overtime win.

For the 34-year-old, injuries have become more normal than playing time, as he missed most of last season dealing with multiple issues. Before his injury on Saturday, Jarnkrok had been a pleasant surprise for the Leafs, scoring three times, adding some much needed secondary scoring.
