Spittin' Chiclets podcast producer Mike Grinnell took his opportunity last night to dunk on the Maple Leafs over the trade the team made for Brandon Carlo at the trade deadline, which saw young star Fraser Minten land in Boston.

Last year's trade deadline was a major one for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In a push to bolster their blueline, they dealt away several future assets, including former Team Canada World Junior Championship captain Fraser Minten, to the Boston Bruins, along with a first-round pick, in exchange for Brandon Carlo.
At the time, the move made sense. Carlo, a right-shot defenceman with size, grit, and the ability to log big minutes, was exactly what the Leafs had been searching for. But as they say, a fair negotiation is one where both sides come away feeling like they won, and Leafs Nation definitely lost a good prospect that day.

Mike Grinnell of Spittin' Chiclets Thanks the Leafs After Fraser Minten Shows Star Potential with Game Winning Goal to Move the Bruins to 2-0-0 on the Season

Spittin' Chiclets producer Mike Grinnell added salt to the Leafs' wounds on Friday, publicly thanking Toronto for Minten on social media. While the deal wasn't necessarily a disaster for the Leafs, Bruins fans might be thanking them for years to come.
Now with the Bruins, Minten is already making an impact. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime last night to push Boston's record to 2-0-0, reminding Toronto fans of what they gave up. Not to mention he would slot perfectly into the lineup right now for the Maple Leafs, thanks to the injury to Scott Laughton.
Giving up a first-round pick and a top prospect should typically land you a star, and while Carlo has been steady, it's fair to wonder if the Leafs paid too steep a price.
Seeing now what Minten is slowly becoming, this one has the potential to make a lot of fans nervous in Toronto, as they have already been on the extreme losing end of another high-profile deal with Boston in the past with the Tuukka Rask trade.
