While the Toronto Maple Leafs are no longer in contention for hockey's greatest prize, there are multiple former Leafs who are still competing for the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, one of those former Leafs, Zach Hyman, will be watching the rest of the playoffs from the sidelines.
In another interesting layer to this story, it was another former Maple Leaf who ultimately cost him his season, as a hit from
Mason Marchment is what did the damage.
Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, straight from Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch, Zach Hyman is out for the remainder of the year and is undergoing surgery today.
Fellow NHL Insider John Shannon has since revealed the injury to be a broken wrist, which is a devastating outcome for both Hyman and the Oilers, who are just 1 win away from securing their 2nd consecutive berth in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Thus far during these playoffs, Hyman has produced 5 goals and 11 points across 15 games for the Oilers. His presence will certainly be missed and will make it a heck of a lot more difficult for the Oilers moving forward.
