A misconception regarding the Maple Leafs and their supposed relaxed style is being completely rejected by head coach Craig Berube after his first season behind the bench in Toronto.

Having to deal with an early exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the last number of years has been an understandable sore point for members of the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans.
At the same time, Maple Leafs players also have to deal with a mindset from fans and haters that they are fine with phoning it in and collecting stacks of money, while never making a long playoff run.
Over the weekend, Berube appeared on the "Nasty Knuckles" podcast with Riley Cote and Derek Settlemyre where he insisted there is no "country club" atmosphere among the team, despite what others might think.
"The players we have there, the dedication and the professionalism that they show day in and day out are really good. I guess people would probably think, 'Oh, it's a country club there.' It's not. They have all the resources and the players do have everything they need. But they work, they're focused, they want to do well, and they wanna win."
Berube also said that when the club doesn't win, fans and analysts seem to single out individual players, such as Mitch Marner, to unfairly lay the blame on.
"The way I look at it is we didn't do a good enough job in Game 7 [against Florida] as a team to win that game, and that's why we lost. It's not on Marner, it's not on Matthews, it's on everybody."

While many expect Marner, and possibly John Tavares, to leave the team in free agency over the summer, ex-NHLer Paul Bissonnette is making the case for the team to bring both back.
Meanwhile, former Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke believes Brad Treliving really has his work cut out for him on the trade market during the offseason as many NHLers are choosing not to play for Canadian teams.
