"There's no doubt about it, after just two seasons in the NHL, Auston Matthews has established himself as a high end elite level talent. Matthews talent is known, however it looks like not everybody might think it's organic. Craig Custance of The Athletic sat down with Matthews recently and the Leafs young forward revealed some very interesting information. Matthews revealed that he was "randomly selected" for a drug test following his four goal debut, and the "random selections" haven't stopped as they've continued to be frequent even during his second season. Here's an excerpt from Custance's article:Matthews was at practice with his Toronto teammates when they showed up to give him another welcome to the NHL. He was part of the randomly selected no-notice drug testing that happens during the season under the NHL's drug policy.
The scrutiny from drug testers carried right on into his second season.
«For some reason, my name got pulled every single time last year in the season,» Matthews said. «That was insane. Every time they showed up: You. Matthews.' Every time. I don't know how many times they came to the rink. I think there was only one time where I didn't get drug tested.»Pretty crazy story."
