As free agency quickly approaches, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has been busy re-signing a handful of players, including a multi-year extension with a fan-favourite.

On a Monday that saw the Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights finally agree to terms on a sign-and-trade for Mitch Marner, the Leafs also committed to bringing back a fan favourite on a multi-year extension.
On Monday evening, the Leafs and pending UFA Steven Lorentz announced a 3-year extension that will keep the 29-year-old with the team until the end of the 2027-28 season. The deal carries a $1.35M cap hit.

Steven Lorentz Had No Doubt He Would Be Back with the Maple Leafs

Almost immediately after the extension was made public, the fan-favourite hopped onto a Zoom call and spoke to the media about his new deal and how it feels to continue to live out his childhood dreams.
"There was no doubt in my mind that I'd be back in Toronto again. Last year exceeded expectations, and just being able to wear the Leaf with pride... trying to bring a cup to a city that's longing for it, and it deserves it."
The 29-year-old Kitchener, Ontario native tallied 8 goals and 19 points in 80 games for the Leafs last season, bringing needed speed, physicality and consistency to the bottom-six and on the penalty kill.
