Joseph Woll's NHL career has been relatively short thus far, but one thing that has followed him from the very beginning is his lengthy injury history.
The 26-year-old netminder was hurt in the post-season last year against Boston as he missed out on the pivotal Game 7 after playing the hero in Game 6. He was subsequently also sidelined to begin the 2024-25 season.
During their afternoon contest against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, Woll looked uncomfortable and was moving very gingerly after attempting to make a save. Fortunately, after working through the tweak during the commercial break, Woll stayed in the game and battled through the ailment.
Justin Bourne, one of the co-hosts of the Real Kyper & Bourne show, applauded Woll for his ability to stay in the contest despite not being 100%, especially with his injury history.
The Maple Leafs were lucky on a few counts as Woll not only remained in the contest, but played a major role in their 3-1 victory as he stopped 30 shots en route to his 11th win of the season.
With Anthony Stolarz sidelined for the immediate future and Matt Murray having an unimpressive start to his season, the Maple Leafs will be extremely cautious with Woll's health.
Hopefully, the 26-year-old was able to avoid the worst of it and will be good to go in time for Thursday's game against the same Islanders they were victorious against this afternoon. If not, we could see Dennis Hildeby potentially playing in 2 of the next 3 games.
