Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has provided an update on his health status ahead of training camps, which kick off in a few weeks.
As the offseason winds down, players are beginning to return to their teams in preparation for the upcoming season.
As per Dave McCarthy on X, Matthews said:
"We'll obviously miss him. He's a great friend, great teammate. It's kind of the business side of it, that's tough. But obviously wish him the best."
(Matthews) Added that his health is "good" heading into the season.
Auston Matthews Is In Good Health For The First Time In A Year
While those numbers are strong for most players, they fell short of Maple Leafs fans' expectations of Matthews. After all, he's a two-time 60-goal scorer and widely regarded as the best goal-scorer in the world.
Heading into this season, Matthews will be leaned on even more to help make up for the offence lost with Marner's departure. As captain, and now with one fewer superstars alongside him, his role becomes even more crucial.
Fans won't have to wait long to see if Matthews' clean bill of health is for real, as the Maple Leafs will begin training camp in less than one month's time.
