One prominent NHL Insider has shared an important update regarding the future of Maple Leafs forward Nicholas Robertson in Toronto.

Maple Leafs winger Nick Robertson has heard his name in trade rumours for the past few seasons. It was no different heading into training camp this year -- even after he signed a new one-year deal in August.
The California native understood that he was once again battling for a roster spot heading into training camp. With the help of a couple of injuries and a good camp, he earned one, and head coach Craig Berube was quick to praise him.
"Nick's got speed. He's tenacious, plays hard and can shoot a puck in the net. I thought he had a good camp. I really did," said Berube of Robertson's training camp.

Maple Leafs and Nick Robertson at Odds Over Role

Unfortunately, the Leafs' depth up front has relegated him to the third line yet again, even being passed over by rookie Easton Cowan for Monday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Brad Treliving Confirmed to be Working on a Nick Robertson Trade

On Tuesday's edition of 'Insider Trading', TSN's Darren Dreger revealed that Brad Treliving has already been in conversations with multiple teams, trying to find the right deal that works for Robertson and the Leafs.
"He's hoping for a larger role... Brad Treliving has recently talked with clubs who may have interest in Nick Robertson. Given the depth the Maple Leafs have, it's a tough spot for Robertson, so maybe it's time give him a fresh start somewhere else."
Without Scott Laughton and Steven Lorentz currently, the Leafs will need Robertson, but what happens when they return and if Cowan continues to impress?
After 160+ games in the blue and white, Robertson may finally get an opportunity elsewhere, in a position that will let him do what he did best in junior. Let's just hope that when the Leafs do pull the trigger on a trade, they get a decent return for Robertson.
