With the NHL season right around the corner, prominent insider Pierre LeBrun has made an official announcement regarding this year's trade deadline.

The 2025-26 season is upon us with rookie camps starting, training camp right around the corner, and the official start to the campaign in just about a month.
It's expected to be another exciting season and the Winter Olympics should add a different element. With the best on best competing for international glory once again, it will bring about a different atmosphere and level of play.
With that being said, another important fixture for any season is the date for the trade deadline, which the NHL has officially announced will be on the 6th of March, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will have played 63 games by the 6th of March. They won't have to worry about any gameday distractions from the trade deadline as they are scheduled to visit the New York Rangers on the 5th and then return home to host the Tampa Bay Lightning on the 7th.
It's anyone's guess as to how the season will unfold, especially with a 3-week layoff in February for the Olympics. However, one thing is for certain, and that is that the Leafs will be active heading into the deadline.
This time around they might be carrying an excess in cap space as they currently have just under $2 million to play with. That number can change drastically if they can find a suitor for David Kampf or Calle Jarnkrok, but that has proven to be very difficult this summer.
The Leafs have always managed to stay in the hunt for the big names on the market, with or without cap space. Brad Treliving has proven to be very creative but he will have to do without the ability for double retention, after the new changes to the CBA came into effect.
Nevertheless, we now have a date in place for the busiest day in the NHL schedule, and one that will bring about a lot of anxiety, excitement, and everything in between for the fan base.
