The Florida Panthers played hard to win their second consecutive Stanley Cup and then partied even harder, causing some damage to hockey's greatest prize.
After a dominant performance in Game 6 against the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, the Florida Panthers have secured their 2nd consecutive Stanley Cup championship.
One of this summer's prized unrestricted free agents, Sam Bennett was named this year's Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP, but after playing through a gruesome injury and still deliveing a point-per-game performance, the award could have easily gone to Matthew Tkachuk.
The celebrations from the Panthers after back-to-back Stanley Cups were always going to be intense. However, things may have gotten a little out of control as an image has surfaced of a substantial dent in the base of the Cup following the aftermath of last night's celebrations.
Thankfully, the Stanley Cup awarded to the players is merely a ceremonial Cup and not the one that resides at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
It's not the first time that the Cup has been damaged during championship celebrations. Perhaps you'll recall former Leaf Nicolas Aube-Kubeldropping the Cup on its base and denting it before the team photo following the Colorado Avalanche's Stanley Cup win in 2022.
