It was a season filled with drama for Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. The Leafs' forward held out during training camp and the start of the season for a new contract and as the holdout lengthened, the forward saw his popularity amongst Leafs' fans take a strong dip. After returning to action, Nylander started off cold with just two points in 11 games during the month of December and five points in 10 games during January. He finally turned it around for February and March but fans weren't too impressed with his performance during the playoffs with just three points in seven games. The 23 year old has completely turned it up for the IIHF World Championships though. Nylander is currently tied with Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek for the tournament lead with 15 points in one less game than Voracek having only played six games compared to Voracek's seven. Sweden's goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, had a huge compliment for Nylander after the team's most recent win calling Nylander "One of the best players in the world".Swedish teammate and Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson compared Nylander's shot to that of Patrick Kane and said "After all the criticism he received...Now he proves who he really is. He proves he is worth all the money. He always wants the puck. He opens up surfaces for others, which looks easy, but it is so difficult."
