Ex-Maple Leaf Suggests the Leafs Need to Trade Middle-Six Forward to Facilitate DNA Change

Former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill suggested on Thursday that it may be time for the Leafs to move on from middle-six forward Bobby McMann.
Following another disappointing playoff run, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving stated that there was some 'DNA that had to change' this off-season to turn the Leafs into a Cup contender.
Many took his statement as an indication that it would not just be Mitch Marner departing the blue and white, but a few other forwards as well. On Thursday, former Leafs forward Jay Rosehill revealed one forward that the Leafs should be looking to move on from given his lack of adaptability during the playoffs.
Jay Rosehill Suggests that the Leafs Move on From Bobby McMann
On 'Leafs Morning Take' on Thursday, Jay Rosehill and co-host Nick Alberga discussed moving on from Bobby McMann despite him being a player that is capable of providing secondary scoring and playing Craig Berube's style of play.
"What really stands out to me is Bobby McMann. If the puck is not going in the net, we were begging for him to lead the charge in the bottom six and play that role that Bennett and Marchand play. He just didn't have it in him... He doesn't have the skill of some of these high-end players, so I was begging him throughout the playoffs to stand out. I think he's got a lot of potential. There's a perfect guy who could adopt to one of those roles, but he just doesn't do it. For that reason, I'm sitting here going, we need guys that are willing to do that and I'm not sure if Bobby is based on what I've seen."
An unrestricted free agent at the end of next season, McMann carries a $1.35M cap hit and would be easy to move if the Leafs chose to.
McMann missed the playoffs in his first two seasons with the Leafs due to injury and at the time, the Leafs saw him as someone that could change the game for them with his speed and heaviness. Whether it was just nerves or something else remains to be seen, but McMann failed to grasp the opportunity he was presented with in 13 games this post-season and his failure to do so could mean he is on his way out of Toronto.
