Former Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves dazzles with the San Jose Sharks, scoring a rare highlight reel goal with a great individual effort.

Ryan Reaves was traded by the Maple Leafs to the San Jose Sharks in mid-July in exchange for 24-year-old defensemen Henry Thrun.
The trade got the Leafs out of the final season of Reaves' 3-year contract and saved them a little over $1.3M in cap space.

Ryan Reaves' Tenure in Toronto Was Short-Lived

In two seasons with the Leafs, the 38-year-old skated in just 84 games, spending most of the second half of last season in the press-box, before being placed on waivers.

It was a clear indication that the Leafs and head coach Craig Berube no longer saw a role for him in Toronto and that his time in Toronto was coming to an end.
Reaves wasn't happy about being demoted and the two sides ultimately agreed to part ways with his trade to the Sharks.
"Just a lack of trust very early," said Reaves of his reasoning for wanting to be traded.

Ryan Reaves Scores Rare Goal With Great Individual Effort

On Saturday, Reaves had fans of the Leafs asking where his goal scoring touch had been the past two seasons after he scored a highlight reel goal against the Anaheim Ducks with a great individual effort.
It was Reaves' first goal since the 2023-2024 season and reminded the league that despite his age, he can still contribute with more than just penalty minutes.

Ryan Reaves Nearly Nets Gordie Howe Hat-Trick

Speaking of penalty minutes, after scoring, Reaves then dropped the gloves with Ross Johnston in a battle of the heavy weights. The fight left the Stanley Cup Champion just an assist shy of a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick.
While Reaves was loved by fans of the Leafs when he first arrived, his questionable knees, poor defensive play and costly errors quickly had the fan base question when he was in the lineup.
With a fresh start in California, however, Reaves appears to have redefined himself in the hopes of reaching his goal of skating in 1,000 career NHL games.
