As the Maple Leafs and Matthew Knies continue their discussions on an extension, Sportsnet' Elliotte Friedman revealed where his cap hit is expected to land.

Ahead of the Entry Draft, which begins Friday night, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving spoke with reporters Thursday where he provided an update on extension talks with John Tavares and Knies.
Treliving explained there had been lots of communication with Knies and his camp, but that he is not overly concerned about negotiations going into July 1st when the 22-year-old would be subject to offer-sheets.
While progress had been made, the two sides had to adjust their parameters after John-Jason
Peterka was traded to the Utah Mammoth and signed a five-year deal with a $7.7M cap hit.

Elliotte Friedman Confirms Projected Dollar Value for Matthew Knies

Friday, on his '32 Thoughts' podcast, Friedman revealed where Knies' AAV will fall once his extension is done. Friedman believes that the extension for the Arizona native will fall somewhere between Peterka's $7.7M and Wyatt Johnston's $8.4M per season.
Both of those extensions are five-year deals, which is where many believe Knies ends up. While the Leafs want to get a deal done before the former second-round pick becomes vulnerable to an offer-sheet, Leafs Nation is hopeful that the deal ends up being less or more than five years as to not walk the rising star directly to free agency.
