After another quiet game in today's loss, head coach Craig Berube had some choice words for his team, including calling out his superstar winger, William Nylander.

Despite a much better performance today against the Detroit Red Wings, the Toronto Maple Leafs were unable to get back into the win column, which has drawn the ire of head coach Craig Berube.
The Maple Leafs outshot the Red Wings 40-15 and even tied the game in the third period when they were down by 2, however, a late goal from Mason Appleton was the deciding factor.
While some of the top guns in Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies looked sharper compared to their showing against Detroit on Saturday night, William Nylander once again flew under the radar.

A Closer Look at the Numbers

The superstar winger had a big season opener with a goal and 2 assists but has since delivered just 1 assist and a minus-3 rating in both games against Detroit. On the season as a whole, he has just 3 shots, and that's something Berube wants to see improvement in as soon as possible.
I don't know exactly what it is, to be honest with you. I'll have a conversation with him, see where he's at and what's going on.

How Nylander Can Get Back Into Craig Berube's Good Books Again

Berube is just as stumped about his lack of shooting as the rest of us, especially after having registered 569 shots over the last two seasons. Heading into today's game he had fired just one even-strength shot, which is far from ideal for a top-6 sniper like Nylander.
Moreover, coming into the season, the talk of the town was how the Leafs would fare offensively without Mitch Marner, and how they needed players like Nylander to step up in his absence, which so far hasn't come through yet.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Leafs as they finish up a back-to-back set tomorrow night against Nashville. However, with the Leafs struggling to score in recent contests, Nylander's production will be put under a microscope.
Despite the last two games, the hope is that Berube's comments will resonate with the Swedish forward, who will look to get back on the scoresheet after notching a career-high 45 goals last year.
