During the Toronto Maple Leafs' 5-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche yesterday, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was seen being very animated with officials multiple times. One of those times was following a non-call on Colorado that left Auston Matthews injured and struggling to get up following a stiff cross-check.

Keefe attempted at multiple points to flag down the official for an explanation on why it wasn't called a penalty, since Matthews was clearly cross-checked in a play that is called 99 times out of 100. The response Keefe got from the officials was enough to make you laugh - and not for a good reason.
Following the game, Keefe was asked about the non-call that saw Matthews wince in pain. He revealed what he was told in that moment.
"The ref told me he didn't get cross-checked but that he fell by himself into the boards. Those aren't my feelings, I guess. He didn't get cross-checked."

Keefe was very careful with his choice of wording discussing the call and officiating during the game so that he does not face another hefty fine from the league. Given how terrible the officiating was, though, he should have blasted them a little bit more and just taken the fine. The officials would have had it coming.
