Matt Murray was slated to start last night against the Senators but, after warm-ups, it was Ilya Samsonov who made his fifth straight start. Many thought Murray was hurt after taking a William Nylander shot up high during warm-ups but it was later confirmed that it had nothing to do with why Samsonov started.

Following the 6-2 loss to Ottawa Sheldon Keefe provided an update about Murray's status and why Samsonov started instead. According to Keefe, Murray has been "dealing with something that flared that's been bothering him for a while and that's why he couldn't play."

Keefe also confirmed that it has nothing to do with the adductor injury that held him out of the lineup for a month back in October/November. With the Leafs back in action on Sunday night, there is a small possibility that we could see 12-1-0 Joseph Woll get a spot start against the Capitals to give Samsonov an extra couple of days rest.
