On a recent episode of the popular podcast Spittin' Chiclets, co-host and producer Mike Grinnell made a very bold statement about the Leafs for the upcoming season. Grinnell, who is an avid Bruins fan and admittedly hates the Leafs, believes the Leafs will go on a very deep playoff run this season and win hockey's ultimate prize.
"It actually pains me to say this but, I think the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup this year. I do, and I'm not saying that to pander, I just love everything this team did this off-season. I'm not a fan of the team, but I love adding Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Reaves, Max Domi, locking up Auston Matthews so there's no distractions heading into the season. Do they still need help on the back end with goalie and defense? Absolutely, that can be acquired at the deadline. There's just something in the pit of my stomach that's telling me, this is the year. All-Star Game's in Toronto, it's their season, they win the Stanley Cup this year and it pains me to say it."
Grinnell is more optimistic than many Leaf fans following the events of this off-season. You can hear the disappointment in his voice as he is saying it, but for a Bruins fan to project that the Leafs will win the Cup, it must not have been an easy thing to suggest on his podcast.
