Samsonov has not been good this year, though he did show some promising signs in his last start and, at one point, even had the fans in the stands chanting "Sam-my! Sam-my!", so there are signs of life beginning to shine through in his game after clearing waivers and spending some time with the organization's development staff during his short AHL assignment.
Jones, on the other hand, has been tasked with a heavy workload starting in eight of the last nine games. Fatigue might be having an effect, as his play has taken a dip recently with the BC native allowing at least three goals in his last three starts, all loses.
Many felt as though Samsonov would draw in on Thursday in Calgary in hopes of building on his performance against Detroit on Sunday. That will not be the case, as Martin Jones was the first goalie off the ice at practice this afternoon, indicating that he'll draw in against the Flames.
