The Vancouver Canucks are going into this season hopeful to make the playoffs, but of course, all of that could change depending on what happens with pending UFA J.T. Miller. The Canucks are facing the possibility that they may have to trade Miller in order to avoid losing him for nothing, though the primary goal remains to sign him to an extension.

According to Satiar Shah, the Canucks have offered the former Ranger a contract extension that is "nowhere close" to what the Miller camp wants. In other words, by the sounds of things, if the Canucks are unwilling to come up on their offer, Miller is as good as gone.

The 29-year-old is coming off of an incredible season, posting career highs in every category with 32 goals and 67 assists for 99 points. The former first round pick absolutely broke out for the Canucks this season and has shown that he can be relied upon as a primary producer. Unfortunately for the Canucks, Miller's break out campaign comes at a great time for him and not so much for them. His current cap hit of, $5.25M will pale in comparison to what he gets on his next deal.
