With the IIHF World Championships around the corner, former Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas was bestowed with a prestigious opportunity for Team Canada.

While the Toronto Maple Leafs and 15 other teams duke it out during the NHL playoffs, some of the players from the remaining pool of teams will be representing their nations during the IIHF World Championships.
Former Maple Leafs GM and current architect of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kyle Dubas, was bestowed the honour of being named the general manager for Team Canada as they look to avenge last year's upset loss.
Dubas was selected as the GM by Doug Armstrong, the current architect for the St. Louis Blues, and he will be joined by a talented cast including Ryan Getzlaf and former Maple Leafs forward Jason Spezza.
"Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year's Men's Worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada's National Men's Team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF World Championship," Canada executive director Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "Kyle has great relationships with players and staff throughout the NHL, and as a member of management group for the 2026 Olympics, we are confident he is the best person to lead Team Canada in Stockholm and Herning this May."

The tournament will run from the 9th to the 25th of May and will be stationed in both Sweden and Denmark. Canada will headline Group A alongside Finland, Sweden, Slovakia, Latvia, Austria, France, and Slovenia.
Group B will be headlined by the United States as well as Switzerand, Czechia, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, and Hungary.
Canada finished atop of their group last year but were taken down in the Semi-Finals by a score of 3-2 against the Swiss. They are set to open the tournament against Slovenia on the 10th of May before finishing off the round robin portion against Sweden.
While players like Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid will more than likely be participating in the post-season while the tournament is ongoing, Canada will still have several options to choose from including Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini.
Canada will look for their second championship in 3 years after last taking home the honours in 2023.
