Canadian Fans Relentlessly Boo American National Anthem During Live NHL Broadcast

The Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild game on Saturday night was the scene of a heated exchange between Canadian hockey fans and anthem singer Mandia Nantsios, who drew the unfortunate opportunity to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" in front of fans in our Nation's Capital right after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a 25% tariff order on all Canadian imports.

Reporter Bruce Garrioch was at Canadian Tire Centre to cover the Senators-Wild game on Saturday and shared the following clip of the anthem singer almost having her voice blocked out by a chorus of boos.

The story appears to have received a lot of coverage, as Nick Murray, a reporter for The Canadian Press also shared a clip of the fans' hostile reaction to the U.S. National Anthem.

The story even received national coverage on CBC News as Canadian reporters reacted to Donald Trump's latest actions against perhaps his country's most important ally.

The scene in Ottawa has some questioning why the National Anthems are still sung before every single game and not reserved for special events only, such as the Winter Classic, Stanley Cup Playoffs and 4 Nations Face-Off. This is not the first time this line of thought has been brought up.

Thankfully for Nantsios, her rendition of the U.S. Anthem gave way to raucous cheers as she began to sing the Canadian National Anthem.

Unfortunately for the Wild, not only did they have to endure their anthem being booed, but the Sens handed them an unbridled beat down, pulling off a 6-0 win at home to send their American counterparts packing.

It will be interesting to see if the booing of the U.S. Anthem becomes a common theme in Canadian markets or if this was just a one-off in Ottawa after the latest discourse following Trump's tariff order.
