Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin has officially tied Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history, with 894 goals.

Alex Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks, leading the Capitals to a come-from-behind 5-3 victory and matching Gretzky's record of 894 goals.
As reported by TSN on X:
Ovechkin reached this milestone in 1 fewer game than Gretzky, accomplishing the feat in 1,486 games.
Currently, Ovechkin has 41 goals this season in just 60 games, having missed time due to injury earlier in the year. At 39 years old, he ranks 3rd in the NHL for goal-scoring.
Ovechkin has received support from around the league, including from current Maple Leafs players, who are in awe of his goal-scoring abilities. This is highlighted in Nick Barden's article titled 'I Don't Think Anybody Thought That Would Happen': Maple Leafs React to Capitals' Alex Ovechkin Approaching Wayne Gretzky's NHL Goal Record.
Ovechkin is now just one goal away from becoming the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. With six games remaining for the Capitals this season, he is almost certain to break the record. If he does so in his next game, he will have scored more goals than Gretzky in the same number of games, putting to rest any speculation about who the greatest goal scorer of all time is.
