Updated playoff odds paint a very grim picture for the Toronto Maple Leafs

As if watching the Maple Leafs sputter in the playoffs wasn't punishment enough, fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs are now being subjected to a downright dismal regular season.

The Maple Leafs have just one win in their last five games, sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, and are just one point above last place in the Eastern Conference.

And if all that isn't bleak enough, an official update to the odds of making the postseason for all teams in the NHL is giving the Maple Leafs a near-90-percent chance of missing the playoffs.

Moneypuck.com released an update to their official playoff odds pie chart following the Maple Leafs' loss to the Nashville Predators. It doesn't paint a pretty picture.

To top it off, Leafs head coach Craig Berube and captain Auston Matthews have very differing opinions of what last night's defeat means for the team.

As we get closer to the Olympic break, Money Puck puts the Maple Leafs' chances of getting into the playoffs at a lowly 11.1 percent. The chances of Toronto winning the Stanley Cup? 0.4 percent.

It's not just that the Maple Leafs are struggling. Longtime rivals like the Montreal Canadiens, who have yet to complete their rebuild and have had to deal with some horrific goaltending this season, are in a playoff position at the moment.

Money Puck pegs their postseason chances at 52.2 percent right now. The Boston Bruins, who were supposed to be having a down season following the departure of some key names, including captain Brad Marchand, have a 58.1 percent chance of getting into the playoffs.

And then we see someone like Matthews showing complacency after the Leafs' latest loss. It's enough to make you want to pack it all in. Another loss tonight is all but guaranteed to bring about major changes after the Christmas break.
