According to Sportsnet's top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks have swung a blockbuster trade with an Eastern Conference club for Trevor Zegras.
As far as trade rumours go, Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has seen his name at or near the top of several trade bait lists for several seasons now.
On Monday, his wait for a fresh start has come to an end with the announcement that the Ducks have finally found a deal that is to their liking.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Ducks have struck a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers to send Zegras to Philly.
The move takes yet another center off of the market, which only compounds the issue for the Maple Leafs. The Flyers were in need of a center after sending Scott Laughton to Toronto ahead of the 2024-25 NHL trade deadline.
According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Flyers have sent forward Ryan Poehling, a 2nd round pick (45th overall) this season, and a 2026 4th round pick back to Anaheim in exchange for Zegras.
As mentioned by The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Zegras has one year left on his current deal, which will pay him $5.75M this season. He'll be an RFA at the end of his current contract.
If Zegras can remain healthy and get back to his form from 2021-2023, the Ducks may regret this decision. However, Zegras has played just 88 games combined over the past 2 seasons, so the trade does not come without its risks for Philly.
