Toronto Reporter Really Irritates Maple Leafs Star Mitch Marner During Interview

Mitch Marner appeared to grow irritated during a recent interview with The Athletic after being asked the same questions he has refused to answer in the past.
Marner's future with the Leafs has largely been tied to the playoff success, or a lack thereof, but through it all, Marner has
remained steadfast in wanting to stay in Toronto and said at the beginning of the season he wouldn't discuss his contract situation throughout the season.
Unfortunately for Marner, after the media went most of the season without asking additional questions about his contract, the deadline forced him and GM Brad Treliving to address it again, much to their disliking.
During the Leafs' California road trip, Marner
sat down with The Athletic and answered a handful of questions, some of which that appeared to agitate the 27-year-old as they pertained to his contract situation.
"I'm here to just play hockey. That's what I expressed (to the media) at the start of the year and express now. It's a business out there. I know what's going on. I'm just here to play hockey," Marner told Jonas Siegel. "I'm here to enjoy everything and go through the ups and downs with these guys, and just take it day by day and try to help us win games."
Siegel then proceeded to ask him about his situation and whether he, his agent or the Leafs decided to table discussions for the season, which appeared to irritate the former first-round pick, given his answers.
"That'll come when that'll come," said Marner of his contract. "I haven't looked at it (in) any sort of way," he said. "Like I said, I'm here to play hockey. That's what I'm here to do. I'll leave it at that."
As much as Marner says he wants to stay, if the media continues to poke the bear when it comes to his contract status, it may force him out the door to somewhere quieter, just as it did with Ontario-born star Ryan O'Reilly.
