While the Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas need to get William Nylander signed to a new contract this summer, they'd also like to extend Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews as soon as possible on July 1st. Matthews will be likely looking for a top notch deal, possibly earning at least $10-11million a season. That will eat up a lot of cap space, so could the Leafs convince Marner to take a hometown discount?TSN's Darren Dreger stated that Marner is unlikely to accept such a deal:«Now, we know who the big fish in the Toronto pond is and that's Auston Matthews and it's been speculated that maybe Matthews comes in at $11.5 million or around that target. Well look, Marner has the productivity, the statistics, to back him up to upwards of Jack Eichelat $10 million flat. I get the sense that although there's a willingness to negotiate with Auston Matthews, there's a battle ahead for the Marner camp with the Maple Leafs.» What do you think of Dreger's comments?
