The Ottawa Senators announced their fan appreciation and promotional schedule on Wednesday, revealing one of their giveaways takes aim at the Maple Leafs.
For the first time in more than 20 years, the Leafs and Senators met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs where the 'Battle of Ontario' was officially revived. Unfortunately for the Senators, they came up short, being eliminated in six games by the Leafs.
Ahead of training camp and the upcoming season, the Senators unveiled their alternate jerseys and announced their promotional and fan appreciation nights on Wednesday. While the alternate jersey was met with mixed emotions, Sens fans noticed one particular promotional giveaway that was a direct shot at the Leafs.
To commemorate the actions of Greig leading up to Rielly's suspension, the Senators are giving away a bobble-head of Greig in mid-form of his now infamous slap-shot. Unfortunately, the Senators chose to hand them out on January 10th when they take on the Florida Panthers to avoid Leafs Nation from getting their hands on any of them.
Senators fans are often the first ones to cry that everything is about the Leafs when it comes to media coverage, but they can't exactly use that excuse anymore considering their own team is indirectly making their promotional event about the Leafs.
