After scoring his first goal as a member of the Maple Leafs last night, forward Scott Laughton's comments show us why he's going to make a very good Leaf.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been desperately trying to get Scott Laughton on the board and it finally came in the form of his first goal as a Leaf last night against the San Jose Sharks.
The goal itself was a thing of a beauty after Laughton did a lot of the hard work setting up the play. He scooped up a loose puck from below the goal-line before being set up by some quick one touch passes from Oliver Ekman-Larsson and David Kampf. He then wired home a one-time slap shot from the point to cut the deficit back to 1 goal.
Unfortunately, the moment might have been ruined by the fact that they dropped the contest in a shootout, once again, to the 32nd ranked Sharks after a flat performance cost them an additional point in the standings.
After the game, Laughton was asked about the goal and how he felt to finally get the monkey off of his back. His response was on point with his character as he was happy to get on the board, but would have preferred to get the win instead.
"It was nice probably for my own confidence, and nice to get one for sure. But it would've been a lot nicer to get a win and not score."
Nevertheless, the goal was a long time coming for Laughton, who was held scoreless in his first 9 games as a member of the Maple Leafs. He was also a minus-5, had 7 PIMs, and has averaging just 12:48 ATOI, which included just 9:52 TOI three games ago against Nashville.
A lot has been made about his demotion to the fourth line earlier in the month, but that didn't last all too long with Laughton being elevated back to the third line alongside Max Domi and Nicholas Robertson.
Former teammate Erik Johnson, as well as his former head coach in John Tortorella, have come to his aid recently, claiming that his game will come to the forefront eventually and that some patience is required considering the environment he's walking into.
