The Toronto Maple Leafs' forward group might be getting some much-needed reinforcement soon as there's encouraging news regarding veteran Scott Laughton.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs navigate an inconsistent start to the season, sitting at 3-3-1 through 7 games, one thing has been clear: there's been a noticeable lack of chemistry throughout the lineup.
That could soon change with the return of Scott Laughton, an Ontario native who's been sidelined since the preseason.
Laughton suffered a lower-body injury on October 2nd after blocking a shot during a preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings. He was ruled week-to-week, but there's finally some good news on his recovery.
Head coach Craig Berube provided an encouraging update on the centreman's progress, saying that Laughton is expected to resume skating on his own soon and could rejoin team practices not long after.
As reported by Terry Koshan on X:
"He's trending really well ... hopefully he is back on the ice with (the team) shortly."

Laughton Eager for Rebound Season

Laughton's first season in Toronto didn't go as planned after being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers. He recorded just 2 goals and 2 assists in 20 regular-season games, and added 2 assists in 13 playoff appearances -- numbers below expectations for a player of his calibre.
Fully healthy, Laughton will be eager to remind Leafs Nation of what he can bring -- energy, defensive reliability, and a veteran presence down the middle, just as we saw before his injury.
For Laughton, this season represents an important chance to prove his value in a deep Toronto lineup.

Injury Woes Continue for Maple Leafs

Unfortunately, the Leafs' injury luck hasn't improved elsewhere. Veteran defenseman Chris Tanev exited Tuesday's game against the New Jersey Devils with an upper-body injury following an awkward collision with Dawson Mercer. His status remains uncertain as the team awaits further evaluation.

Whats Next for the Maple Leafs

As Laughton nears a return, the Leafs will soon face a roster decision -- who comes out of the lineup to make room?
Rookie Easton Cowan was a healthy scratch against the Devils, and with competition heating up, Laughton's return could have serious implications for Cowan, who could be demoted to play top minutes with the Marlies rather than sitting in the Leafs' press box.
