When Toronto native Andrew Mangiapane chose to sign with the Edmonton Oilers, Maple Leafs fans were not happy, but as it turns out, he had a good reason for not signing with his hometown team.
As TheToronto Maple Leafs continue to reshape their offense following Mitch Marner's departure, they are still on the lookout for players who can help fill the void.
Andrew Mangiapane, originally believed to be a potential target of the Leafs in free agency, didn't end up signing with his hometown team. We now have clarity on why he didn't choose Toronto.
According to David Alter on X, Mangiapane addressed the situation during an appearance on TSN 1050's First Up radio show.
"For sure, I think I was definitely hearing out the Maple Leafs, obviously there's some pros and cons," Magiapane said.
"But there was no really, I guess, firm offer or anything like that."
While it's now clear that pressure or local expectations weren't the reasoning he didn't sign in Toronto, Mangiapane not being given a firm offer might get under the skin of Leafs fans who were high on a potential homecoming.
