Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was stretchered off the ice in Philadelphia in his first game back from a concussion thanks careless hit from Matvei Michkov.
Fans and media members were thrilled to learn that Chris Tanev would be returning from his concussion on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Through two periods, it looked like he hadn't missed a beat, even collecting an assist on
Jake McCabe's goal.
Tanev Injured After Scary Collision
Unfortunately, midway through the third period, Tanev was involved in a scary collision and everyone is concerned for his wellbeing.
Skating backwards at the Leafs' blueline, Tanev was run into by Flyers forward Matvei Michkov in what was a completely avoidable hit. The collision sent Tanev's neck snapping back, and caused him to spin backwards before falling and seemingly hitting his head.
Tanev laid motionless for a lengthy amount of time before medical staff were able to turn him onto his back and onto a stretcher.
Tanev was awake and was able to give a thumbs up as he was stretchered off the ice and Mitchkov was given a minor penalty for interference, though a major penalty should have been the result. Just an ugly, avoidable play on a defenseman in a vulnerable position.
