Sabres Fire Shot at the Maple Leafs as They Unveil Teaser For Regular Season Schedule

Earlier this week, the NHL officially unveiled their opening night schedule that is set to kick off the 2025-26 regular season on the 7th of October. It features a triple header, that begins with the Florida Panthers hosting the Chicago Blackhawks.

While the rest of the schedule was set to be released for Wednesday afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens schedule was leaked and it unveiled that the Maple Leafs would be hosting Montreal for their home opener on the 8th of October.

As for the rest of the teams, it's been a relatively tight ship, and some even took to social media and had fun interactive ways of teasing their release, like the Buffalo Sabres who used their world famous chicken wings for every opponent

In their opening slide, they had Florida, Toronto, Dallas, and Detroit, where they labelled the Maple Leafs' plate as the 'choking hazard', which included a chicken wing drizzled in maple syrup.

Of course that was Buffalo's way of firing shots towards the Maple Leafs lack of playoff success, which included 7 first round exits within an 8-year span between 2017 and 2024.

The irony of Buffalo poking fun at their divisional rival's lack of post-season success is that they themselves haven't qualified for the spring dance since 2010-11, nor have they made it past the first round since 2007.

It's been a lengthy drought for Buffalo that reached 14 straight seasons this past year, in which they've also finished in last place within the division on 5 separate occasions.

Nevertheless, it was a fun way for a team like Buffalo to tease their schedule-drop as they fired shots towards most of the rest of the league. Florida for instance was labelled 'the rat' for Brad Marchand and Ottawa was given a plain wing.

Look for the schedule to be released later this afternoon and as always expect a spirited affair whenever the Sabres and Maple Leafs meet up for the first time.
